Viva Voce is an American indie rock band formed by husband and wife duo Kevin and Anita Robinson. Viva Voce was formed in 1998 in the Robinsons' native Muscle Shoals, Alabama and relocated to the Portland, Oregon area in 2001. The debut Hooray for Now, released in 1998 on Cadence Communications, was ill-fated. When Cadence became insolvent and was liquidated, the Robinsons took a hiatus, focusing on family matters. Eventually, they formed their own label, Amore!Phonics, and released 2003's Lovers, Lead the Way! in conjunction with Asthmatic Kitty. The follow up, The Heat Can Melt Your Brain, was released in 2004 on the Minty Fresh label and has garnered positive critical response and heightened exposure for the band. The song "Lesson No. 1" from this album was featured in an ad for Motorola's SLVR cellular phone and on the thirteenth episode of the second season of The O.C. titled "The Test." Broadening their fanbase worldwide, Viva Voce has toured extensively in Europe after signing with UK indie powerhouse, Full Time Hobby. Their newest album, entitled, Get Yr Blood Sucked Out, was released August 21, 2006 in Europe and September 12, 2006 in the USA. Viva Voce is currently touring with the indie band The Shins where singer Anita Robinson often joins The Shins on stage to sing backing vocals on a few songs. She also features on The Shins' third studio album, 'Wincing the Night Away.' The opening of their song "Fashionably Lonely" can be heard in recent advertisements for laundry detergent All. The song "Special Thing" can be heard in a Microsoft Zune advertisement. DiscographyAlbums
